Motorhome road trips with unlimited mileage

The Bardenas desert, the hanging houses of Cuenca, the Basque coast, an Alpine pass or the walls of Carcassonne. With a week or more ahead of you, the map opens up: these are our long routes for travelling far without watching the mileage.

On rentals of 7 days or more, Segimon Rental includes unlimited mileage. That changes the trip: Aragon, Teruel, Cuenca, the Basque Country, Navarre, the Alps or southern France are all within reach. You also collect the motorhome next to Granollers, without crossing Barcelona, and within 5 minutes you are on the AP-7 or C-17, heading north, south or inland.

To keep a long trip from becoming a marathon, keep most driving days under 300 km and, when a long transfer is unavoidable, balance it with rest days in one place. In high season (July, August, Christmas and Easter) the minimum is 7 days anyway; the minimum is 4 days in mid season and 3 in low season, but you need 7 days or more for unlimited mileage. If you plan to leave Spain, tell us before pick-up (insurance-authorised countries only). An extra driver is free from 7 days, and for long rentals just ask us for a quote. More details in our guide to long motorhome trips and our guide to driving a motorhome.

What you can see

Bardenas Reales, Navarre's desert

Bardenas Reales, Navarre's desert

Clay ravines, white mesas and the silhouette of Castildetierra in the south of Navarre. It is a landscape you do not expect just 400 km or so from Granollers. Drive only on authorised tracks, in daylight hours, and check at the information centre first: after rain the mud makes the tracks hard going.

Albarracín and its rust-red houses

Albarracín and its rust-red houses

Walls climbing the hillside, steep lanes and reddish façades above a bend of the Guadalaviar river. Albarracín is at its best at sunset, once the day trippers have gone. Pair it with Mudéjar Teruel and the stone villages of the Matarraña in one unhurried week.

The hanging houses of Cuenca

The hanging houses of Cuenca

Perched over the Huécar gorge, the hanging houses are the emblem of a World Heritage city. Cross the San Pablo bridge to see them face on. Close by are the Ciudad Encantada rock formations and the canyons of the Alto Tajo, ideal for alternating driving days with walking days.

San Juan de Gaztelugatxe

San Juan de Gaztelugatxe

A hermitage on an islet joined to the Biscay coast by a stone stairway of more than two hundred steps. Arrive early and check the official website to see whether free booking is required, which is usual in high season. From here, Urdaibai, Bilbao and Donostia are close at hand.

Alpine mountain passes

Alpine mountain passes

Hairpin after hairpin, glaciers in view and meadows at the top of legendary passes. The Alps need time: these are long road days that only make sense with unlimited mileage. High passes usually open roughly from June to October; check their status before setting off and use low gears on the way down.

La Cité de Carcassonne

La Cité de Carcassonne

A walled medieval city with some fifty towers, a World Heritage Site about three hours from our base. It is the perfect gateway to southern France: carry on to Cathar country, the Camargue or Provence. Visit early or late in the day to avoid the crowds.

Frequently asked questions

How many km can I drive in a rental motorhome?

With Segimon Rental, 3 to 6 day rentals include 300 km per day, with extra km charged at €0.40. From 7 days, mileage is unlimited, so you can plan long routes across Spain or Europe without worrying about the counter.

How many days do I need to reach the Basque Country or Cuenca by motorhome from Barcelona?

We recommend at least 7 days, ideally 10 or two weeks. The Basque Country and Cuenca are around 550 km away, so split the drive over two days and leave time for rest days. With 7 days or more you also get unlimited mileage.

Can I take the motorhome outside Spain?

Yes, to insurance-authorised countries, but you must tell us before pick-up. Remember that Andorra is outside the EU (bring your ID or passport) and that Switzerland requires a motorway vignette. We will help you check everything when you book.
