A motorhome designed for two
The Sunlight V66 Adventure we rent has beds for two people. Let's be clear from the start: it has 4 approved travel seats but sleeps only 2. It is perfect for a couple, but not if you want friends or children to sleep on board too.
In return, the space is designed for two: a kitchen with a 78-litre fridge, a bathroom with an indoor shower, an outdoor shower for when you come back from the beach, Truma heating for cool nights and a rear storage space for the chairs, table and luggage. There is no bed to make up and take down every night: the bedroom is always ready.
Twin beds or a double: your choice
The bedroom has two single beds that convert into a double. That is more useful than it sounds. Some couples sleep better together; others, after a day on the road, appreciate their own space: one goes to bed early while the other reads, one runs hot and the other cold, or someone snores.
You can switch layouts during the trip as it suits you. If you would rather not bring sheets, duvets and pillows from home, add the bedding extra (€25 per bed). And if you like to travel light, towels are available too (€15 per person).
Easy to drive, and easy to share
At 6.66 m long and 2.14 m wide it is one of the most manageable motorhomes around: it copes with mountain roads and fits in long parking bays without much fuss. It weighs 3,500 kg, so you can drive it on a standard car licence (category B). It is a 140 hp manual Fiat Ducato, comfortable on motorways and mountain passes. Just remember the 2.74 m height at car park barriers and petrol stations with low canopies.
Sharing the driving makes the trip far more enjoyable. For both of you to drive, add an extra driver (€25; free on rentals of 7 days or more). Each driver must show their licence and ID at handover.
- Swap drivers every two hours or at each long stop.
- Whoever is not driving is co-pilot: navigation, tolls and finding somewhere to sleep.
- For tricky manoeuvres, one of you guides from outside; agree on hand signals first.
- If one of you is less confident, take the wheel on quieter stretches.
Routes that suit couples
Almost any destination works for two, but some lend themselves to taking it slowly. The Costa Brava out of season, with the villages of the Empordà, the clifftop paths and near-empty coves, is a classic just an hour from our base. Garrotxa, with its volcanoes and stone villages, invites you to walk and stay two nights in the same place.
If you enjoy wine, Priorat and its terraced vineyards make a fine long weekend (minimum 3 days in low season and 4 in mid season). For more mountains, try the Vall d'Aran or the Catalan Pyrenees; to cross the border, Cathar Country or the south of France, with castles, medieval villages and markets. And the Ebro Delta at sunset, cycling between rice fields, is hard to forget.
Slow travel: fewer kilometres, more time
The classic mistake is trying to see too much. Stages of 150 to 250 km a day leave time for an unhurried breakfast, a long walk and arriving in daylight where you plan to sleep. Two nights somewhere you like beats moving on every day.
At Segimon Rental, rentals of 3 to 6 days include 300 km per day, and from 7 days mileage is unlimited. To sleep, choose campsites or authorised motorhome areas: wild camping is generally not permitted in Catalonia. Apps such as Park4Night or Campercontact help you find them, and it is worth booking in high season.
Extras that make a difference
The price already includes a kitchen kit, table and chairs, awning, bike rack and full gas bottles. On top of that, a few extras fit a trip for two particularly well:
- Bedding: €25 per bed. Towels: €15 per person.
- Starlink Mini: €10 a day (maximum €60 per booking), subject to coverage. Handy if one of you needs to work online or you fancy a film in the evening.
- E-bike: €35 a day or €150 a week.
- Paddle board: €15 a day or €60 a week, for calm coves.
- Gourmet and beach packs, so you can start the trip without a supermarket run.
Living together in a small space
A motorhome is a small home, and you notice it more on rainy days. What works best is keeping things tidy: a cupboard each, everything in its place and the table clear. Split the jobs from day one too: one handles water and emptying the tanks, the other the cooking, and you take turns.
Make time outside: a walk, a café terrace, a bike ride. And leave at least one day unplanned. Part of the appeal of a motorhome trip as a couple is deciding over breakfast whether to stay or move on.
